Why You Should Be Eating Strawberries Before Bed
I know it sounds counterintuitive. You'd think that eating before bed would cause the food to just sit in your stomach and pack on the pounds right?? Wrong.
It's all about what you eat as a late night snack. Of course if you eat three slices of pizza or a massive bowl of ice cream, the chances of your skin looking like crap in the morning or you starting to pack on a few pounds could be a reality. If you're eating strawberries, grapes, raspberries, or apples as a snack, you're going to have a much different outcome.
We know because we tested this theory. For years actually.
What we found:
Eating foods rich in vitamins before bed, especially vitamin c, actually help to repair and regenerate your skin at a much faster pace. Why? You're eating healing foods instead of foods that have no nutritional value except carbs. When we ate strawberries before bed, our complexion was more even, more radiant, and glowing the next morning.
Strawberries in particular, have twice the Vitamin C as many other fruits. PLUS they keep blood sugar levels in check. When your blood sugar is kept at an even keel, it helps your body to process foods better and keeps your skin in a happy state of mind. When blood sugar is all over the place, it creates a breeding ground for bacteria on your skin. AKA breakouts.
Antioxidants
Researchers did a study with 12 different fruits, and found that strawberries have the HIGHEST amount of antioxidants. Antioxidants fight free radicals. Free radicals can cause cancer and make your skin look dull, along with aging the skin faster.
Strawberry extracts have direct anti-inflammatory effects which makes them great for those with auto-immune diseases and chronic pain. It stems mostly from a group of phenolic antioxidants called anthocyanins, which gives strawberries their deep red color. Researchers believe these phenolic antioxidants can help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Easy ways to incorporate strawberries into your diet:
- We LOVE slicing them. 1 cup of strawberries only has 49 calories! So measure out a cup, slice em up, and eat them out of a fancy bowl. You'll feel like you're getting SO much more food than a cup!
- Add them to your smoothie and protein shakes.
- Add them to your wine. It makes a cheap wine feel so much fancier. Plus you get to eat wine soaked strawberries :)
- Layer strawberries into a parfait glass with greek yogurt, Veíse Collagen, Veíse Spirulina, and some granola for a fancy treat without a ton of work.
